Monday 30th August to Saturday 4th September -
Holywell to Bideford legs of the Coastal Challenge
This is a relay being run round the entire coast of Great Britain
- - - - - - - - - - -
Barry the Baton left Blackpool Tower on 9th May on a journey
that will take him clockwise right round the coast of Great Britain
in the hands of a multitude of different runners.
As Barry reached Wales, on the way back North,
over 3500 'coastal' miles had already been run.
The target date back in Blackool is 24th October!
To see the details of the full route and to follow
Barry's progress, visit the
www.coastersgb.co.uk website.
Bude RATs volunteered to help with the 17 legs of the Holywell to
Bideford section.
Splat the RAT has, of course, been joining Barry when RATS are running.
On Monday 30th August Bridget, Irene, Roger and Becky ran
almost 40 miles from Holywell via Newquay to Padstow.
On route, Barry the Baton went surfing and assisted the Air Ambulance.
The first leg on Tuesday (Padstow to Port Isaac) was run by Steeplechaser
(Laurie), then Bridget and Roger ran Barry from Port Isaac to Tintagel.
On Wednesday Andrew Ives, Bridget and Roger took Barry from Tintagel
to Bude, with Isobel and Fergus joining them for
the Crackington to Bude stage.
Thursday saw Rob, Jasmine, Mark (Bideford AAC), Bridget and Roger
accompany Barry on the tough challenge from Bude to Hartland Quay
(with Tinker joining Splat the RAT in support).
Friday was Hartland Quay to Buck's Mills via Clovelly. Runners were
Helen, Bridget and Roger - and Barry took time off to ride a donkey!
RATs final day with Barry was Saturday, with Bridget and Roger
from Buck's Mills to Bideford - with Val joining the team from
Westward Ho! to the 'final handover' of Barry at Bideford AAC.
PS Not quite 'final handover' for Bridget and Roger, who subsequently
joined Barry again on Monday for a section at Lynton
(and Monday was real RAT drowning weather!)
