Thinking of joining?   -   or just visiting?

Bude RATs welcome anyone with an interest in running who would
like to join in on one (or more) of our weekly running sessions.

RATs running the coast path

Local runners

If you think you might like to join but are not sure, come and give us a try one Tuesday evening.

Tuesday is our social running evening with several groups going out for runs of differing standards.   A couple of groups will do runs of up to 5K with other groups running further/harder.

Numbers vary, with usually less RATs attending in the school holidays due to other commitments .....such as the 'surf is calling'!! Many Water RATs first priority!

The co-ordinator for that evening will slot you into a suitable group and the group will love to show you one of our local runs.

It will not cost anything for the first Tuesday evening; thereafter you can either join the Club as a member or just run with us on Tuesday evenings when it is convenient for you for a fee of £1 per evening, however to comply with insurance requirements this is restricted to a maximum of 6 visits.

Contact us

Even if you are only at the stage of considering whether to come, do email us
            (via   info@buderats.co.uk)
if you have any queries about this.

If you are planning to come on a particular evening,
please do let us know beforehand
so that the co-ordinator is expecting you and can give you a royal RAT welcome.   Ideally also tell us in advance how long you have been running and the sort of time or distance you normally run for - that will help the co-ordinator.

If you have only recently started running, such advance notice is even more important as it helps us to ensure that you have a really good experience on your first excursion with us.

The Thursday evening sessions tend to be more structured and training oriented (less chatty, more gaspy!!) so less ideal as a first session with us.   You are welcome to come to Thursday sessions but we would prefer to explain them to you first during a Tuesday session.

Pitch and Putt Hut Meeting place/time

We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the 'Pitch and Putt Hut' on Summerleaze Down at 6.30pm.
On your first visit it would be sensible to arrive about 10 minutes earlier than that.

Summerleaze Down is the grassed area to the North of Bude Town centre. The Pitch and Putt Hut is in the middle of the grassed area on the seaward (west) side of Crooklets Road (which runs from the top of Belle View down to Crooklets car park).

It is probably best to park in Crooklets car park (currently free to park in after 6pm) and, starting from beside the skateboard park, walk up the 200m to the Pitch and Putt Hut.
For those with satnav, the postcode of Crooklets car park is EX23 8NF.   There are public toilets at Crooklets car park and a toilet at the Pitch and Putt Hut.

Terrain, kit and weather

In the summer months the Tuesday evening running is multiterrain but once the evenings draw in it tends to be on tarmac to take advantage of street and footpath lighting.

Normal running kit should be sufficient but do bring, and wear, Hi-Viz tops (and also bring a torch of some sort with you) once we are running after lighting up time.

We run in all weathers unless it is dangerous underfoot (ice or snow).

Visitors

For runners visiting Bude and wishing to join in one or more of our evening sessions, we would be very pleased to see you and much the same position applies re welcome, queries, advance notice and cost (first session free, £1 per session thereafter for a maximum of 6).

As some of you are likely to be experienced runners from other clubs, it would be helpful to know the sort of time you expect to achieve over 5K or 10K.

Junior training Juniors

Juniors aged 8 - 14 are welcome to join our Summer Thursday evening Junior sessions from 5.30 to 6.15pm, based around the Pitch and Putt Hut.

However, these do not run in the winter months so the last Junior Training session in 2010 will be on Thursday 21st October.   These sessions will restart the first Thursday after the Easter holidays in 2011.

Cyclists

Please see the Training Sessions page of this website for details of cycling opportunities.
