TNT - Talan's Notorious Trail - is a timed 6, 12 or 24-hour event built around a 5-mile loop at Widemouth Bay.

The route begins with stunning coastal views, follows the nature trail to the Weir and returns beside Bude Canal before bringing you back to the event field and the bay.

Take it on solo, share the challenge as a pair or bring a team of friends, clubmates or colleagues.

Whether you are looking for a first timed endurance event, a team weekend or a serious 100-mile attempt, TNT lets you set your own target and keep moving one lap at a time.

Camping is included from Friday evening until Monday, giving runners and supporters a full weekend beside the course.

New for 2027: younger runners can join the trail

Age 16-19 single-loop race

A timed single lap of the full 5-mile TNT course for runners aged 16 to 19 inclusive.

Starts at 10:00am on Saturday 10 July 2027.

Cub Fun Run

A 1-mile fun run for children and young people aged 4 to 15 inclusive.

Starts at 12:00pm on Saturday 10 July 2027.

The complete TNT challenge, including the opportunity for solo runners to reach 100 miles and earn the finisher's buckle. Available for Solo, Pair and Team entries.

Five miles of coast, trail and canal

The TNT loop is approximately 60% trail and 40% tarmac. It begins with views over Widemouth Bay, follows the nature trail to the Weir and returns beside Bude Canal before finishing back at the event field.

There are three short sections of seldom-used road, so runners must remain alert and follow the race rules throughout the lap.

Earn the TNT 100-mile buckle

20 laps. 100 miles. Within 24 hours.

Any solo runner who completes 20 laps of the 5-mile course within the 24-hour event will receive the coveted TNT finisher's buckle to keep and treasure. The buckle is one of ultrarunning's classic rewards: a lasting reminder of the work, resilience and determination required to cover 100 miles. Why is a belt buckle awarded for 100 miles? The tradition comes from horseback endurance riding. In 1955, riders on the Western States Trail Ride received sterling silver buckles for covering 100 miles through the Sierra Nevada in under 24 hours. In 1974, Gordy Ainsleigh completed the route on foot, a run widely credited with inspiring the Western States Endurance Run, established in 1978. Around the same period, Ted Corbitt awarded a belt buckle to the winners of a 30-mile race he organised in the Bronx in 1958. The buckle went on to become a defining symbol of 100-mile ultrarunning and remains a treasured prize at endurance races around the world. TNT continues that tradition by awarding its own finisher's buckle to every solo runner who reaches 100 miles within the 24-hour event.

Make a weekend of it

Camping is included with your entry from Friday evening until Monday. The included camping covers the competitor, one adult and children under 16.

The event uses its own field to the north of the Bay View Inn, adjoining the pub. Campervans and caravans are welcome, but there are no electric hook-ups.

ON-SITE FACILITIES

Portaloos are provided. There are no showers.

Bins are available, but please take your own rubbish home wherever possible.

No fire pits or BBQs are permitted.

Quiet time is from 10:00pm until 7:00am.

Family and visitors are welcome to support runners.

Important campsite distinction

The TNT event field is not the official Widemouth Bay campsite next door. That is a separate paid facility. Competitors, family members or friends must not use its facilities unless they have booked and paid to stay there directly. Unauthorised use could result in the runner being disqualified.

Food and drink

RUNNER SUPPLIES

Water, cola, hot drinks and some snacks will be available at the start and finish field. Runners are advised to bring their own race food.

BAR

There will be a bar on site. Opening times will vary.

FOOD VENDORS

We are intending to provide food vendors on site. Full details will be confirmed nearer the event.

ALLERGIES

We cannot guarantee that any food provided on site is allergen-free. If you have an allergy, please make sure you have access to enough suitable food and drink of your own.

Mandatory kit and course safety

The route includes three short sections of road. Please follow the race rules, remain aware of other road users and listen to marshal instructions at all times.

HEADTORCH AND REAR LIGHT

For the 12 and 24-hour events, a headtorch must be carried from 8:00pm. A flashing red light must be attached to your back during hours of darkness.

HEADPHONES

Standard headphones are not allowed. Bone-conducting headphones are permitted under the race rules, although their use is discouraged.

MOBILE PHONE

Runners are strongly advised to carry a mobile phone.

DOGS

Dogs are not allowed on the course because of farm animals and wildlife at the Weir.

Medical cover, timing and results

MEDICAL COVER

Full event medical cover is provided for the entire 24 hours of the event.

TIMING TAGS

Every competitor wears an ankle timing tag. Tags are collected at registration and must be returned at the finish or when withdrawing.

LIVE RESULTS

A live results feed will be provided. Full access details will be included in the race brief.

Every lap helps support Talan's Trust

All surplus funds raised by TNT go to Talan's Trust, which was set up in memory of Talan Penny.

The Trust raises awareness of childhood cancers, helps fund research and aims to fund services supporting siblings and teenagers affected by teenage cancer.

By entering, supporting a runner or donating directly, you are helping the Trust continue that work.

Run for Talan's Trust with a charity place

A limited number of charity places are available for TNT 2027. Places are provided at the Race Director's discretion.

Commit to raising £250 per entrant for Talan's Trust. Once the full amount has been raised and transferred to the Trust's account, you will receive a free race entry and a T-shirt on the day.

The target applies to each person: £250 for a solo runner, £500 for a pair (£250 each), and £250 for every member of a team.

The funds must be transferred to Talan's Trust and the Race Director notified no less than three weeks before the event.

Our neighbours: The Bay View Inn

The Bay View Inn is the pub next door, offering accommodation and food. It kindly lends us the field we operate from, together with the utility connections needed to run the event.

Please support the Bay View Inn where you can during the weekend.
